Who knew? I sure didn't until one rainy afternoon, I went to the chicken coop to put the hens away, expecting a grand chicken chase ahead of me. Instead, they all flowed into the coop like water! No chasing, no muddy mess to deal with. It was the umbrella... the mighty, wondrous, awesomely powerful umbrella. :) You see, my hens, like probably most hens, will go willingly into the coop once the sun goes down, but if it's still light outside, it's a difficult task to get them in. Now that I have this handy-dandy trick up my sleeve, it's a piece of cake! They see me coming with the umbrella and they scramble to get inside the coop. It's awesome! Don't get me wrong... a chicken chase every now and then is fun, especially when Bryan gets involved, but when you've got other things to do, the umbrella is the right tool for the job. :) Tracy
The cool breezes start to blow, there's a chill in the air... the trees begin to give way to God's beautiful palette of reds, oranges, yellows and browns. What a wonderful season! I'm looking forward to the cool nights, huddled around the fire pit, roasting marshmallows for s'mores, sipping warm apple cider and laughing with friends. The crisp, cool air will be a welcome break from the hot summer we've had.
We are in Fall cleaning mode around the farm, getting everything ready for winter. We want to reconfigure the layout of the barn so the cows will have a warm place to get out of the cold biting wind. I'm putting the garden beds to bed for the winter. Covering them with lots of pine straw, leaves and manure, so they'll be ready to go for planting next Spring.
We love the changing of the seasons! Tracy
Welcome! After about a year of working on all of the details, we are excited to finally get this website up and running! We will be sharing many of the happenings around our homestead, as well as some helpful information. We hope you'll drop in every now and then to see what we're up to. We're always trying something new. :) Tracy
